The story here
Coffee arrived in Costa Rica in the late 1700s and quickly became the country's first major export, funding much of San José's early infrastructure. A 1989 law banning the cultivation of Robusta cemented the country's identity around quality Arabica alone, and decades later its small, family-run micro-mills helped pioneer the honey-processing techniques now used across Central America.
